Fishing in Bridger Western is a simple but important activity that helps you earn moola, get useful items, and even gain small combat advantages. Once you understand the basics, it becomes a steady and reliable part of your progression.
How to Start Fishing
- To begin fishing, you only need two things:
- A Fishing Rod
- Fishing Bait
- Both items can be purchased from the Tackle Bait vendor:
- Located at the dock on the northern side of Lake Boullier
- You can reach it by following the train tracks through the forest
- Once there:
- Fishing Rod costs 150 moola
- Fishing Bait costs 15 moola
- After buying them, you can start fishing immediately.
- Keep in mind:
- The Fishing Rod uses one of your three Utility slots
- If your slots are full, it will replace an existing item
Where You Can Fish
- You can fish in most water areas:
- Lakes
- Rivers
- The dock near the vendor is the best spot:
- You can sell fish instantly without traveling
- Restriction:
- You cannot fish in the swamp
How the Fishing Works
- Fishing uses a simple mini-game:
- Select the Fishing Rod from your quick menu
- Click and hold to cast toward your cursor
- Complete a QTE to reel in the catch
- The QTE difficulty depends on what you hooked:
- Common items are easier and quicker
- Rare and higher items take longer or tighter timing
What Fishing Bait Does
- Fishing Bait is consumed while fishing:
- Normally one bait per attempt
- Effects:
- Reduces pull/reel time by 2x
- Does NOT increase rarity chances
- Important:
- Bait is for speed and efficiency, not luck

- Can be cooked
- Snapper (Common)
- Sells for 25 moola
- Can be cooked
- Chests (Rare)
- Contain useful items
- Mares Leg (Epic)
- Caught as a rusted version
- Refurbish it at Flint for 1500 moola
- Drops if you die while holding the rusted version
- Once restored, it becomes a secondary weapon and goes to bank storage
- Golden Bass (Legendary)
- Sells for 15,000 moola (currently bugged to ~1,500)
- Cannot be cooked
- Arrow Shards (Legendary)
- Used as a secondary method to obtain a stand
- Guarantees a stand
- Cannot be dropped or stored
- Cannot be used if you already have a stand
- Cod (Common)
How Cooking Fish Works
- Fish can be cooked using a campfire:
- Place the fish onto the fire
- Wait for it to cook
- Be careful:
- If left too long, the fish will burn and be wasted
- Cooking gives fish a second use:
- Instead of selling, you can consume them for buffs

- Small heal
- Temporary reduced damage taken
- Cooked Bass:
- Small heal
- Cooked Snapper:
- Small heal
- Short speed boost
Can You Make Money From Fishing?
- Yes, but it’s a steady income method rather than fast farming.
- Earnings come in two ways:
- Consistent income:
- Common fish sell for 25–45 moola
- High-value drops:
- Golden Bass offers a huge payout when fixed
- Consistent income:
- This makes fishing:
- Reliable for small gains
- Exciting due to rare jackpot rewards
