Here’s the guide to crafting a backpack in Hytale. I have also covered how to upgrade your Backpack to increase the inventory slots so you can store more items while exploring and grinding.
Hytale Backpack Crafting & Upgrades Guide
Inventory space is always limited in games like Hytale, especially when you’re constantly gathering resources. Thankfully, Hytale lets you permanently expand your inventory through Backpack upgrades.
Unlike traditional RPGs, backpacks in Hytale are not wearable items. Instead, they act as consumables that permanently unlock additional inventory slots for your character. Once unlocked, you never need to craft the same Backpack again for that character.
How Backpacks Work in Hytale
- Backpacks permanently increase inventory/storage space
- They are consumed on use, not equipped
- Each upgrade stacks with previous ones
- You must unlock higher Workbench tiers to craft better backpack upgrades
Getting Started: Upgrade Workbench to Tier 2 (Required)
Before crafting your first Backpack, you must upgrade your Workbench to Tier 2.
Workbench Tier 2 Materials:
- 30× Copper Ingot
- 20× Iron Ingot
- 20× Linen Scraps
Once upgraded, backpack crafting becomes available.
How to Craft Your First Backpack
After unlocking Workbench Tier 2:
- Open your Workbench
- Go to the Tinkering tab
- Select Unlock Backpack
- Craft using:
- 8× Iron Ingot
- 16× Medium Leather
Once crafted, use the Backpack to increase your inventory slots permanently.
Backpack Upgrade I (More Inventory Space)
If the base Backpack isn’t enough, you can unlock Backpack Upgrade I.
Requirements:
- Workbench upgraded to Tier 3
Crafting Materials:
- 40× Cindercloth Scraps
- 8× Cobalt Ingot
- 24× Heavy Leather
Craft it from the Tinkering tab at the Workbench Tier 3 and consume it to gain additional inventory slots.
Backpack Upgrade II
For players who pick up everything, Backpack Upgrade II offers the most significant storage boost.
Unlock Requirement:
- Record 100 Memories at the Forgotten Temple statue
Recording these Memories unlocks several advanced recipes across all Workbenches, including Backpack Upgrade II.
Backpack Upgrade II Materials:
- 1× Voidheart
- 8× Adamantite Ingot
- 16× Storm Leather
Craft it at Workbench Tier 3, then consume it to unlock even more permanent inventory space.
Backpack Upgrade Summary
